I am a Memphis native and honors graduate of Craigmont High School. My mother, Barbara Burgess Perry, is a career educator, having taught Freshman English at then-Memphis State, adult learners at Southwest Tennessee Community College, and 11th Grade English at Ridgeway High School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and reading from Florida Memorial University and a master’s degree in English from the University of Florida. My father, Anderson William Perry, Jr., taught high school calculus at Hollis F. Price Middle College, on the campus of LeMoyne Owen College, after a 30-year career at AT&T. My baby brother, Derek Anderson Perry, has degrees in philosophy and psychology from the University of Memphis and started his professional career as a youth counselor.
